MELLOWSWAN FOUNDATION LATIN AMERICA

Mellowswan Foundation Latin America

Santiago, Chile will be the center of Mellowswan Foundation for South America.
Our goal for 2008-2009 is to buy land in the countryside, and build a "country home" to host the South American orphans pre/ post surgery.
The excellent Chilean surgeons will do the corrective surgeries.

We will provide exactly the same care for the South American orphans in Chile as we do for the rest of the countries in California.

We have learned from the Ronald McDonalds House as we have stayed there with our orphans, on what to provide.

We are requesting grants and donations from companies
worldwide in order to buy acres of land in California and in Chile

The refuge is a two story building,
consisting of twelve bedrooms, eight bathrooms,
living room, dinning room, kitchen, family room,

elevator and office.

My experience with Orphanages in Ukraine; by Sonia Paz Baron-Vine
When I hear horror stories about orphanages in Ukraine, it makes me sad, so I have to speak up for the ones I have visited and tell you about them.
I have been personally in two orphanages in Ukraine. Not as a visitor for a day. But I have spent one month in one orphanage and one week in the other I have met both orphanage directors and I have donated several things to both orphanages.
My trip was in 1998

Mellowswan Foundation
Helping Disabled Orphans Worldwide

Sonia Paz Baron-Vine had a dream of making a difference in the lives of disabled orphans. Sonia is a polio survivor herself and could relate to their suffering.

After raising her three biological children, she adopted one disabled little girl with genetic malformations from Russia in 1994 and again in 1999 two disabled little boys from Ukraine, also with genetic malformations, due to their parents exposure to the radiation cloud, that covered Ukraine from the nuclear accident of Chernobyl.

Adopting Disabled Children?Local poet Sonia Paz Baron-Vine, a single mom of 3 biological children decided to make a difference and adopted 3 disabled orphans in the late 90’s. Now that her children are healthy she has decided to create Mellowswan Foundation and offer disabled orphans from all over the world a refuge post surgery, nestled in our blessed county, a country place where children can discover nature and animals. Please call 594-1104 if you or someone you know can help make her dream a reality or go to

Sonia Baron-Vine, a polio survivor and single mother of three healthy biological children, who adopted three deformed orphans from Russia and Ukraine in 1994 and 1999. While in Ukraine she spent a month at the orphanage for deformed children in Tsurupinks, where she realized that many of the resident orphans could have simple corrective surgeries and implants that could change their lives and improve their chances of being adopted. She founded Mellowswan Foundation with the goal of building a refuge here in California where the sick orphans could stay pre and post surgery.

"PROJECT ELA"

Ela is a lovely 18 year old teen from Ukraine.

She was born with congenital malformations, due to her parent's exposure to the radioactive cloud from the nuclear accident in Chernobyl.

In her case, deformed hands and feet, thus she was rejected at birth and abandoned by her parents at the hospital, she has been in an orphanage since birth.

I met Ela in 1998 when I spent one month at the orphanage for deformed children in Tsyurupinks,Ukraine.

She was very bright, sweet and we became very good friends.

I had gone to Ukraine to adopt Nikita and Dimitri, both born with extrophy of the bladder, also the result of radioactive exposure by their parents.

Ela came to me, and told me she was " like a sister" to my boys, they had grown together,

could I adopt her too?

I promised her that when the medical treatment for the boys was finished, I would return to adopt her and bring her back to California to have her hands and feet operated.

We have continued to write each other for these past years and we feel like Mom and Daughter.

Mellowswan Foundation will make Ela the first orphan to come to California.Ela has turned 18 and she will be leaving the orphanage in June 2008

The statistics in Eastern Europe are sad, the majority of girls leaving orphanages at 18
find themselves with limited options, alone and sadly, prostitution is usually the only way these girls find to survive. There are one hundred thousand street children in Ukraine, most are infected with HIV and almost all are addicted to glue sniffing.
They live underground in the sewers.

In Ela's case, with her handicap, she will encounter even more challenges, so I have made it my mission to save her and provide her with medical, dental care, and give her a chance at a normal life.
Please read about ELA in our friends web page
http://www.ukraineorphans.net/

Ela needs your help.

Mellowswan Foundation was born in 2004.
Sonia Paz Baron-Vine had a dream of making a difference in the lives of disabled orphans. Sonia is a polio survivor herself and could relate to their suffering.
After raising her three biological children, she adopted one disabled little girl with genetic malformations from Russia in 1994 and again in 1999 two disabled little boys from Ukraine, also with genetic malformations, due to their parent's exposure to the radiation cloud, that covered Ukraine from the nuclear accident of Chernobyl.
She took them to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in California for surgeries and now these children are happy and healthy. Seeing the great need of many disabled orphans when she stayed at the orphanage for deformed orphans in Ukraine, she decided to created a non profit foundation to help these children.
The goal of our non profit foundation is to bring sick, disabled and deformed orphans from all over the world to California, to have medical care, treatment and corrective surgery.
While in the hospital, efforts will be made to find families to adopt these orphans.
Mellowswan Foundation is presently requesting grants to buy land where to build a "country house" where these children can slowly recuperate post surgery and enjoy a healthy diet, spend time with Sonia's loving family and opportunity maybe, once in their lifetime to have contact with farm animals and nature.
Please if you want to donate to make our dream a reality, write to; Mellowswanfoundation@mellowswanfoundation.org
